The story
Raised in New York. Rooted in Cambodia.
Akhoun.NYC comes out of the Cambodian diaspora in New York. It's about growing up in this city and staying connected to Khmer culture the whole way.
Every piece blends the two, and every element is there because it means something. The bandana is as New York as an accessory gets: worn on the train, at the corner store, on the block. At its center is a Khmer yantra, the kind of sacred diagram drawn by monks and masters for centuries.
This one is the yantra of the eight directions. It's worn for protection whichever way you head, and for strength and courage along the way. Put the city and the culture together and you get something to carry with you, wherever New York takes you.
